MEETS

SELF-EXPRESSION

STRENGTH

From bodybuilding to the spotlight -a journey of self-discovery, confidence and becoming the woman she is today.

Personal & Career Journey

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you started your modeling career?

I had my first experience at modelling a few years ago, when prepping for a bodybuilding show. It was a few weeks before the show and I wanted to capture the physique I had worked so hard to achieve, so I organised a couple of photo shoots that season. Then on show day, we have to pose in a certain way for the judges and also photographers. That year was a particularly big year competing and I began to feel more comfortable posing in front of the lights and camera. Following the show, I began to model a bit of fitness/ gym wear for local companies and it took off from there.

What inspired you to become a model?

I decided to give modelling a series go after attending a redefine event by country girl management. My daughter and I went together and it was such an empowering day. They ran through posing, catwalk, we had couple of photoshoots and the taught us more about how modelling is today, I realised it isn’t what it used to be, or what I expected it to be. You don’t have to fit a certain criteria to become a successful model. The industry has a place for everyone and is open and ready to embrace each person and celebrate what makes them unique.

Was there a defining moment that made you realize modeling was your true passion?

It was during this event that I had a lightbulb moment, that would actually go on to change my life forever but I just didn’t realise it at the time. After spending so many years training as a bodybuilder, eating and lifting in such a strict way to be able to ‘fit in’ to what the criteria of the category required, I remember standing at this event and realising that I actually don’t need to mould myself in order to ‘fit in’ to life or to any category. This was one of the the powerful moments of my life and I knew I had to pursue it.

Industry Experience & Challenges

What has been the most exciting or memorable shoot you’ve worked on?

The most exciting shoot was the last one I did, which this feature promoted me to do. I needed to update my portfolio anyway and when I read up on the magazine, I knew it was for me. It was going to be my first magazine feature so I was going to make it count. It was my chance to express myself in every way and it was a celebration of how far I had come… not just as a model but as a woman, the untamed version of me that I had discovered as part of thr journey. I had uncovered that little girl who got shut down and silenced and I had set her free.

Have you faced any challenges in the modeling industry? If so, how did you overcome them?

The last photoshoot was exhausting. I drove 3 hours (round trip) for hair and make up but it was well worth it. Then had a 2 + hour shoot at a studio with several outfit changes and one outfit disaster. I walked out and the photographer just looked at me and said ‘please take that off’ that was Micheal Bryce shoots who was absolutely amazing and my friend, Jordan and I, had the best day. It’s a day I’ll never forget.

Runway, I’m so bad at because as a bodybuilder, I’m stage we walk so slow and controlled trying to avoid any wobble whereas runway is ridiculously fast and I’m still yet to be able to convert.

Creative Process & Style

How would you describe your modeling style?

My modeling style varies. I love fitness and I use my bodybuilding poses for this still a lot. Editorial is fun and I get to practice all the different poses that I’ve learnt for that and build confidence but my favourite is definitely the raw, emotional sexy poses. It’s where I get to come out of my shell and celebrate me as a woman and as an athlete, it’s a way of remembering and acknowledging all of the years and years of hard work in and out of the gym.

What role do you think storytelling plays in modeling?

I think it has helped shape me into the model and woman I am today. It’s been a beautiful journey of realising that I can actually be who I want to be, I don’t have to meet anyone’s expectations apart from my own. I get to choose the rules and the narrative and not only am I good enough, I always was. As this story unfolds, I learn more and more about the woman who I am and who I want to be.

Influences & Inspirations

Are there any models, photographers, or designers who have inspired you?

I work with a beautiful model, Brooke, she had become a friend and had been my pillar of support along side me on this journey, which anyone in the industry will know is a really tough one at times. Everyone needs someone like that to support them on their modelling journey or to work alongside an agency who can give them direction and support.

How do you stay motivated and continue growing as a model?

Motivation is a hard one, it comes and goes, the same way that it does with everything in life. I guess the discipline that I had to have for bodybuilding transfers in the same way. After a tough day with heavy meetings, bad shoots or rejection, I sit with it… I remember that it’s not about me personally, there are a million reasons why things happen the way that they do. Then I call or message Brooke we explore, process and move forward.

Future Goals & Advice

What are your biggest career goals for the future?

My biggest goal was front page of a magazine so I can now tick that off ✔️ next ? I’m not sure, make I should revisit runway haha

Do you have any dream collaborations or brands you'd love to work with?

Dream collabs ? No I don’t, I was recently a group finalist in a playboy and honey birdette competition, that was really fun. I’d probably like to move in that direction.

What advice would you give to aspiring models looking to break into the industry?

If you’re looking at starting out in the industry, I’d recommend learning as much as you can from wherever you can. Go online, look at local workshops and seminars. Like I did with country girl management. Join social media groups, organise your own photoshoot and practice your own style of posing. Don’t hold back, check in to that person inside and let it all out, celebrate each and every part of you because you are so worth it
